Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Rangers Swedish prospect Jesper Fast is awaiting release from the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and could join the Rangers by the middle of next week.
As I posted yesterday, Fast's Swedish Elite League team has been eliminated from the playoffs so he is eligible to play for the Rangers.
The 21-year-old Fasth, who signed an entry-level contract with the Rangers last spring and does not have to clear waivers, finished this season with 18 goals and 17 assists in 47 games for HV71.
Rangers Director of Player Personnel Gordie Clark has said Fast is ready for the NHL.
…while I've expressed by concerns about Fast (or whatever the hell his name is), if Gordie Clark thinks he's ready for the NHL, who am I argue. I'd trust that guy with my first born.
…also, if Miller is going to miss an extended period of time, the need for Fast becomes that much more urgent.
…this team needs a jolt, so let's hope, if this report is true, they'll catch lightning in a bottle with this kid.
