Duclair Makes The Highlight Reel: Prospect Update 9/21/2013

Last night was opening night for a few Rangers prospects, including 2013 3rd round pick Anthony Duclair. Duclair scored twice for the Quebec Remparts in a 7-4 loss last night to Baie-Comeau Drakker, with his second standing out.

Good shot placement on both goals, with the second displaying his combination of speed and skill.

Mackenzie Skapski: I was actually able to watch Skapski last night. He had 38 saves on 42 shots in the Kootenay Ice's 4-2 loss to the Red Deer Rebels. Despite the four goals, Skapski had a strong game. None of the goals were his fault, with two coming off breakaways, one through a whole mess of screens, and one from a point-blank shot in the slot. Kootenay has a young defense with limited talent and the score could have been an uglier one without Skapski. From my observations, Skapski is very strong with his angles and stopping shots, but has trouble with rebound control and locating loose pucks. Both are things that will improve with experience.

Calle Andersson: Scored today in his first game with Malmö this season in a 4-3 win. Andersson had been rehabbing a wrist injury. As a side note, Malmo faced Rögle who have former Ranger Michael Nylander and his son, William, who is projected to go high in the 2014 draft.

Pavel Buchnevich: Five shots – tied for team lead – in Severstal's 4-0 loss to HC Donbass yesterday. Alex Nunn was impressed with Buchnevich's handling of the puck.

Thomas Spelling: Scored for Sønderjyske in their 4-1 win over Frederikshavn. You can see the goal here.

Ryan Graves: Two shots, two hits, and a -1 for the Charlottetown Islanders in a 5-4 win against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles last night.

Troy Donnay: Was a -1 and had a Checking From Behind penalty in the Erie Otter's overtime loss to the Guelph Storm.
