Elliotte Friedman says Avs talked to Rangers about getting Michael Del Zotto for O'Reilly. But they also wanted more

Dater adds that Colorado is looking for an offensive defenseman or proven forward and picks for O'Reilly.
Apparently when Colorado asked for more than Del Zotto, Glen Sather backed away. Rangers were also looking for a defenseman in return.
…yes, Del Zotto has a lot of shortcomings, but I'm not ready to give up on the Rangers young defenseman just yet. He's still only 21 and a stud offensive defenseman is much harder to find than a second line center who's yet to score 20 goals in the NHL. Now I'm not saying O'Reilly isn't talented, but I think he's being way over-valued. And when you factor in that the Avalanche were likely asking for prospects and picks as well, I think this was a non-starter for Sather.
…having said that, I don't blame Sather for having interest in O'Reilly. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't. Sather was likely seeing if he could fleece another GM, but Avs were asking for too much and he backed away. Great job by the Rangers GM.
