Audio: Callahan Talks Upcoming Season, Work Ethic & More

Last week, Ryan Callahan held an autograph signing session at Legends Gallery in Chatham N.J. One of the Rangers fans in attendance was TheNYRBlog reader Harrison Malkin, who is a high school student reporter, broadcaster, and journalist currently working for Sportsranks.net, NBA Insights and NBA 24/7.

Harrison was able to ask Callahan a couple of questions during the signing and sent me the audio of the interview….

Here's the transcript…

Q: What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career, and how have you managed this
challenge?

A: The biggest challenge I have faced is when I got sent down in my second year in the NHL. I just
tried to take it as a challenge, and show the team that I belonged in New York.

Q: Where does your great work ethic and drive come from?
A: My parents. When I was young they instilled that in me, and told me to work hard no matter what I
was doing.

Q: Lastly, what are your thoughts on the upcoming season for the Rangers?
A: I’m excited! We have a good team, and I think its going to be a good year for the Rangers and
Rangers fans.

….unreal job by Harrison taking advantage of this opportunity and getting a legit interview with an NHL player while just in high school. I'm in my lates 30s, run a fairly successful Rangers blog and I've never been in the same room with the Rangers captain. Hell I've asked the Rangers if we could get a player to appear on one of our Spreecasts and have been told it'll never happen. Weak sauce.

…also kudos to Callahan for agreeing to conduct the interview. With the Rangers vehemently against allowing player interviews with bloggers, this was a rare opportunity for Harrison. Assuming if the Rangers find out Callahan gave an interview without the PR team's approval he'll be reprimanded accordingly. Which is embarrassing.
