Man was yesterday a downer. Absolutely nothing going on, unless you think that Jeff Woywitka signing with the Blues and former Ranger Thomas Pock (he’s still playing?) signing with the Avalanche is news.
…btw, what’s up with the Avalanche and Rangers castoffs. First Parenteau, then Mitchell and now Pock. Can you say “Wolfpack West”?
H/T to reader Vinny L for “Wolfpack West”.
However, the biggest disappointment of the day was Zach Parise’s announcement that he needs more time to make an announcement.
…as if Parise didn’t annoy me enough already. Just pick a team, you diva.
And since Parise’s not making a decision, Columbus is still stuck with Nash.
According to Aaron Portzline at the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets anticipate the market for Nash remaining stagnant until free agent Parise picks his destination.
Portzline adds that if the Flyers or Penguins land Parise, the Rangers will become that much more interested in Nash.
…tough to disagree there, but if Sather says he’s not moving Stepan, McD or Kreider and Columbus wants one, maybe two, of those players in return, does anything really change?
…that’s what baffles me about the reports that the Rangers are the front runners for Nash. How is that possible if Sather isn’t willing to give Columbus who they want, while Blue Jackets GM Howson refuses to lower his demands?
On the Rangers own free agent front, Larry Brooks at the New York Post says that Anton Stralman, whom the Rangers qualified at $945,000, is leaning toward remaining in the NHL rather than returning home to pursue a career in Sweden.
Brooks expects the Rangers to offer him a multi-year deal.
…i hated the Stralman signing last year, as I felt it would take a spot away from a younger defenseman, but he surprised me for sure with a very solid season to the point he was one of the team’s better players at certain points during the playoffs.
…he’d be a great 6th/7th defenseman, plus the Rangers can re-sign him relatively cheap.
Brooks also reports that Ruslan Fedotenko is in the mix to be re-signed.
In non-free agency news, here’s a great interview of Henrik Lundqvist (WABC-TV)…
