Tortorella Plans To Put Nash And Richards Together

John Tortorella and the New York Rangers held a dog walk for charity, and as part of the event fans had a Q&A with Torts. Per Rangers beat writer Jim Cerny, John Tortorella commented on the possibility of playing Rick Nash and Brad Richards on the same line.

Would Tortorella then put Gaborik on right wing and create an elite scoring first line? Or would he bump Callahan up there and balance out the second line? Either way, this is very much a sign of how much this organization has changed in the last few years. Three years ago we were praying that the Chris Higgins’ and Alex Frolov’s of the world would surprise in training camp and prove themselves as legitimate first line options. Now, I count as many as six forwards on the roster who legitimately could be deserving of first-line icetime.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a team coached by John Tortorella if the lines didn’t change twice a month. I think it’s safe to say that Tortorella will break up these two at some point in the season. Nonetheless, like John Tortorella, I am incredibly anxious to see what transpires. The only thing that will prevent Rangers fans from witnessing two quality scoring lines for the first time in a very long time is Gary Bettman.
