Staal Feeling Better & Better

After scoring the game winner in overtime last night, Marc Staal addressed his recovery from post concussion syndrome with Katie Strang at ESPN NY

“I’m certainly feeling better and better. As the year has gone on, I’ve felt better and better. Playoffs are a lot of fun and I’m having fun with it.”

…yeah, I’d say he’s feeling much better. As the season wore on you could see it coming, but there was always a setback in his performance. However, since the playoffs started he’s found his game. Especially in this series. Not sure if it’s seeing Ovechkin on the other side or what but he’s looking like the Rangers top defenseman again.

…more than last night’s goal, the thing that has me the most encouraged about his recovery is his physical play of late. He has been throwing his body around without a care in the world.

…Staal also made one of the most underrated plays of the game stopping that 3-on-1 late in the third.

Brad Richards discussed the difficulties of recovering from a concussion…

“No one understands that injury unless you go through it,” said Richards, who battled a concussion of his own while playing in Dallas last season. “I’ve gone through one and I didn’t miss half the season and jump into it, so the benefit of the doubt goes to him all the time and he’s gotten nothing but better.”

BTW, how awesome is this pic from the net cam of Staal’s winner…
