Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports that Michael Sauer (concussion) was at the Rangers Greenburgh training facility on Monday, but he is still completely shut down from on- or off-ice activity.
…i knew he wasn’t skating, but didn’t realize his off-ice activities were shutdown also. May not see Sauer until March.
As far as Marc Staal goes, John Tortorella told Leonard that the Rangers defenseman’s play has been inconsistent at times, and he doesn’t intend to rush him into major regular minutes.
However, Torts is confident that Staal will become a major factor this spring as far as increased minutes and a more prominent role.
…with how well the Rangers have been playing on defense there is absolutely no reason to force additional minutes on a guy who is still trying to find his game after missing all of camp and almost half the season.
