Glen Sather told the media today he does not expect any of team’s RFAs (Callahan, Dubinsky, Sauer, Anisimov & Boyle) to be signed by July 1 and that Matt Gilroy was not qualified but was given offer. Gilroy’s agent will shop him around now.
…was hoping at least Callahan or Dubinsky would get done before July 1st. Would hate for them to get a ridiculous offer sheet from another team.
Sather says due to the MSG renovations the Rangers will open up the season in Europe for the next three seasons (via Blue Notes)…
“We’re going to do this for three years, so you really have to learn to travel and adapt to it. As long as the transformation (of the Garden) takes place, we’re going to try to go to Europe each year. It’s a good opportunity to create relationships for the league, to enhance the markets. The other thing is the relationships you create with the club teams, the people you meet, information comes from that, there’s still players (prospects) over there we miss….but we don’t have anything lined up yet. I think it’s an adventure.”
…hope they have frequent flyer miles.
Here’s Sather on Ruslan Fedotenko, who says he wants to return to the Rangers…
“We’ve had conversations…It’s a priority of what you’re going to have when free agent market opens.”
…great to hear. Looking forward to another season with Fedotenko.
Sather on the possible buyout of Chris Drury…
“I’m not going to tell you about that until the time comes.”
…well OK then.
Despite the log jam at defense the Rangers also seem to be in the market for a low-priced veteran defenseman.
…you can never have enough defense.
…love when Sather actually talks with the media. I get such a better understanding of what this team is trying to do. Keep it up Glen.
