This summer, one of the storylines was when RFA Michael Del Zotto would sign a new contract with the New York Rangers. As of September 9, it still hasn’t happened. Del Zotto mentioned recently contract negotiations are “out of his hands.”
This morning, NYR beat writer Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record had this to say via Twitter after speaking to GM Glen Sather:
#NYR GM Glen Sather on contract negotiations with RFA D Michael Del Zotto: “He’ll come to his senses.”

- Sounds like Del Zotto thinks really highly of himself. Unfortunately, he hasn’t done enough at the NHL level to warrant big-time money. Yes, he had a very good offensive season, but GMs can’t pay for just one good year. For Slats to say he’ll come to his senses, to me, sounds confident he’ll get DZ to sign on his terms.
- However, everything is predicated on this new CBA and, ultimately, once that’s hammered out, then you’ll see Del Zotto signed. Three years, $2.8 million…go get ’em Sather!
