Rick Nash Trade to NY 6th Most Stunning Transaction of 2012

Puck Daddy's Sean Leahy recently constructed a list of the 10 most stunning NHL transactions of 2012. Rick Nash's trade to the Rangers made the list at No. 6.

"6. GM Scott Howson gets his deal, trades captain Rick Nash to New York Rangers (July 23)

The 2012 Trade Deadline seems so far away. It was a magical day dominated by the rumors of the potential landing spot of Columbus Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash. Every other deal was minor in comparison to the feverish coverage of Nash. At the end of the day, Nash remained a Blue Jacket and held a spot under the bus driven by Howson. It wasn't until the end of July when Howson felt the package he was offered by the Rangers was good enough and sent the franchise face to New York City exchange for Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky, Tim Erixon, and a first-round pick."

Ryan Suter and Zach Parise's twin 13-year deals topped the list at No. 1.

… Sean Avery being sent to the Whale should've been No. 1 depending on who you ask.

… The thing I always take away from this trade is, throughout the duration of the process, Glen Sather was dead set on only trading Brandon Dubinky and Artem Anisimov for Rick Nash, which would've been straight up larceny. Only at the end did he throw in Tim Erixon to "sweeten the deal." It's still a steal by Slats, who gets another feather in his trade cap.
