Richards, Gaborik to be Paid During Lockout

Kevin Allen at USA Today reports that 15 of the league's 50 highest-paid players will be paid during the lockout because of bonuses or injury, including Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik…

"According to CapGeek.com, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers received a $10 million bonus this summer while New York Rangers center Brad Richards ($8 million), Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehrhoff ($5 million) and Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski ($3 million) received bonuses during the summer on deals signed in 2011.

Injured players will also get paid during the lockout, and the New York Rangers' Marian Gaborik (shoulder surgery) will draw on his $7.5 million salary until he's cleared by team doctors to play."

Richards will lose just $4 million of the $12 million owed to him this season due to the bonus.

…somebody's agent had the foresight to see a lockout coming.

…assuming Gaborik is going to be no hurry to get cleared by team doctors if the lockout lingers into late November.

Obviously, this also means Michael Sauer (concussion) is being paid as well.
