Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that the Rangers are working on a multi-year deal with RFA Michael Del Zotto.
…so much for Del Zotto being a part of any trade for Nash, Ryan or Weber. Although, if Del Zotto is wanted as the centerpiece of a deal for any one of those guys I could see Sather changing his mind.
…as I’ve said on this blog, I still think Del Zotto has the ability to be the Rangers power play quarterback for the next decade, so I’d be more than excited to see him back in the fold next season. Minus the Devils series, I thought he made some tremendous strides this season and I only expect him to get better.
Zipay adds he wouldn’t be surprised if the Rangers add a righty depth defenseman through free agency or a trade.
…wonder if there’s any chance they bring Eminger (UFA) back on the cheap.
We’ve all seen it in written form, so now here’s some “Rangers are the logical choice for Rick Nash” in video form…
…in Sather we trust, in Sather we trust, in Sather we trust.
In other free agency news, Jason Brough at Pro Hockey Talk reports that Shea Weber will talk with Nashville management next week about a new contract.
…if the two sides can’t agree, get ready for a frenzy bigger and more annoying than the Rick Nash saga. But man, do I hope the Rangers will be a part of it.

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record spoke with Jeff Halpern on the phone about how the newest Ranger will fit in with the team…
“I love the team, I love the style of play as far as being a really aggressive forechecking team. It’s a style I’ve always enjoyed playing. I enjoyed playing it when I played for Torts in Tampa. Over the last few years, I’ve moved between center to wing on the third or fourth line. I try to tilt the ice as much as possible. Personally, I want to contribute a little more offensively but just tilt the ice.”
…Halpern only played a handful of games for Torts in Tampa, but I think having experienced what the Rangers head coach is all about will be a huge benefit for him.
…while not widely celebrated now, I think we’ll look back at this signing during the season and praise Sather on a solid acquisition.
The MSG transformation continues to roll along as TheNYRBlog reader Kris M. sends me these pics of the construction his friend took…
And finally, according to Page Six in the New York Post, Henrik Lundqvist and his wife Therese thought they were going to have the baby during Brad Richards 4th of July bash in the Hamptons, so they rushed back to Lenox Hill on the Upper East Side but it was a false alarm. A few days later (July 10th) their first child Charlise arrived, weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces in an “easy-and-quick delivery.”
…wonder if Richards was showing all his guests his ESPN Body Magazine photo shoot video.
