Rangers Trade Kundratek for Bouchard

Blueshirts United reports that Rangers acquired forward Francois Bouchard from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Tomas Kundratek.

Bouchard, 23, was the 35th overall selection in the 2006 draft by Washington out of the QMJHL where twice he exceeded 100 points in a season. Two years ago he scored 21 goals and 52 points, in helping lead the Hershey Bears to the Calder Cup championship.

“Bouchard is a skilled guy that can play all positions and just needed a change of scenery,” said Jeff Gorton, the Rangers assistant general manager, following the trade. “We like his sense and playmaking ability.”

Jess Rubestein tweets that Kundratek played himself out of the CT Whale line-up this season and was a healthy scratch for seven straight games before the trade.

…wow. Kundratek went from a guy who was supposed to push for the sixth defensive spot in camp this year to out of the organization in just two months.

…Kundratek joins Grachev, Werek and Horak as prospects the Rangers have given up on in the last year. Of which only Horak is succeeding with his new team (2g, 3a with Flames).
