Rangers to Make Real Play for Thornton?

Kevin Paul Dupont at the Boston Globe says now that Rick Nash is a Ranger, not to be surprised to see the Blueshirts make a real play for the Sharks’ Joe Thornton.

Dupont adds that Nash and Thornton were magic together in Davos, Switzerland, during the last lockout, and have paired like hand and glove in the Olympics for Team Canada.

Thornton has a no movement clause in his contract that carries cap hit of $7 million for the next two years.

…is this guy kidding me? Ummm, guess he doesn’t remember Thornton calling the Rangers soft last year and Torts reacting like this…

“It surprised me, and I’ve never heard a player say that. Joe’s a heck of a player, but here’s a player popping off about our team, and Joe hasn’t won a g–damn thing in this league. He could go down as a player, being one of the better players in our league never to win anything. So what he should do is just shut up. It was uncalled for, it was classless, and I’ve never had it happen like that before.”

…yeah, I’m sure the Rangers are real interested in bringing this idiot in. Unless of course the Blueshirts are looking to dominate during the regular season only to fall short in the playoffs the next two years like Thornton teams usually do.

And in my daily Shane Doan update, TVA Sports reports that prospective Phoenix Coyotes owner Greg Jamison hasn’t contacted the Coyotes captain and the 36-year old winger is expected to begin negotiating contracts with interested teams.

…should be a crazy week of Doan rumors and contract talk. Hopefully not of it includes the Rangers and a 4-year, $30 million offer.
