Rangers to Likely Buyout Wolski

wolski3Jesse Spector at the Daily News feels that the Rangers are likely to buyout Wojtek Wolski this summer…

“At the age of 25, it seems likely that Wolski will be headed for a fourth team this summer, as his age lessens the salary-cap impact of buying out the final year of his contract. If the Rangers decide to sever ties with Wolski, it will cost them a mere $466,667 against next season’s cap, plus $666,667 in 2012-13 – a sacrifice for that season that would appear to be well worth making in order to save more than $3.3 million on the 2011-12 cap.”

…this may be unpopular to say, but I think the Rangers should hold on to Wolski. The guy has tremendous offensive talent and the Rangers are lacking big time in that department. Is he an enigmatic player? Sure, but I really liked the report today that he will be joining Boyle to train with Barbara Underhill this summer. Shows me he’s dedicated to making himself better.

…although if the Rangers are going to make a big play for Richards this summer getting Wolski’s $3.8 million off the books will be very helpful.
