Jesse Spector at the Sporting News reports that the Rangers are still in play to land Shane Doan.
Spector adds that skating on the opposite side of a line with Rick Nash or Chris Kreider would be a natural fit for Doan.
“New York’s situation also should be that much more appealing to Doan, knowing that his signing there might just be the last piece of a Stanley Cup puzzle.”
Remaining in Phoenix is still Doan’s top choice, but, according to Spector, he does not want to sign a multi-year deal with a team whose future remains uncertain beyond this coming season.
…i really think the acquisition of Nash has made the Rangers a very attractive option for Doan. If winning a Cup is a priority for him, I can’t imagine he won’t take a pay cut to join the Blueshirts.
…now I’ve got to disagree with Spector that Doan could be skating on a line with either Nash or Kreider. I see Doan more as a third line guy, maybe playing with Hagelin and Boyle. Unless of course, Stepan or Kreider struggle, then I could see Doan being given a spot in the top six.
