Now that the free agency period has more or less passed, Bovada, the sports betting agency in Las Vegas, has adjusted its odds for the NHL. And after adding Rick Nash (along with some other role players), the Rangers have jumped up all the way to second on the list, trailing only Atlantic Division rival Pittsburgh, who sits at 8/1. The Rangers, previously 7th at 12/1 odds, now sit at 9/1. Other notable odds are the defending champion LA Kings, who are 4th at 12/1, the Devils, now without Parise, sit 17th at 28/1. And of course, the lowly, pathetic Islanders are at 75/1 and are only above the Blue Jackets. You can check out the entire list (as well as the odds prior to Free Agency) here.
Obviously, they’re just numbers and ultimately mean nothing. There is a lot that can and will happen between now and October; much less during the regular season. But it is interesting to look at. I think Rangers fans have been caught up in last year’s playoffs and free agency and the Nash saga… perhaps we should sit back for a bit and appreciate the fact that, for the first time in a very long time, the Rangers will be entering the upcoming season as one of the elite teams in the NHL.
