Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com reports that the Rangers are looking to trade for either a top-six forward and/or a power-play defenseman with a good shot.
LeBrun adds the Blueshirts are keeping a close eye on what the Predators are going to do with either Ryan Suter (UFA July 1, $3.5 million this year) or Shea Weber (RFA July 1, $7.5 million this year), who are two players they would covet.
Suter has 5g, 20a this season, while Weber, who just returned to the Predators line-up after mssing four games with a concussion, has 9g, 21a.
…with the way the Rangers power play has been struggling of late (1 for their last 20), it’s no surprise that they’d be looking at both of these defensemen.
…having said that, I think the price for either of these two is going to be extraordinarily high (obviously higher for Weber) and I’m not sure it’ll be worth it for a rental. Would be real tough to turn down Weber though.
Finally, LeBrun adds that the Rangers are interested in Shane Doan, but, as I posted yesterday, Coyotes GM Don Maloney says there is no truth to the rumors that his team is looking to trade their captain.
