Bob McKenzie at TSN reports that the Rangers are one of a number of teams interested in the Hurricanes’ Tuomo Ruutu.
McKenzie feels Ruutu is the type of Top 9 forward that could play coach John Tortorella’s demanding style.
According to McKenzie, Carolina’s asking price for Ruutu is a significant draft pick and a solid prospect or a top prospect alone.
Ruutu, who has 16g, 11a this season, is in the final year if his contact that pays him $3.8 million this year.
…Ruutu is a solid forward, but I wouldn’t give up any more than a mid-round pick and McColgan (5th – 2011) to get him. A 16-goal player is not worth one of the Rangers top prospects.
Meanwhile, Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record feels that the Rangers would have to consider acquiring the Coyotes’ Shane Doan, the Oilers’ Ryan Smyth or Ruutu if any of them are reasonably priced as a rental.
