Andy Strickland of True Hockey/590 The Fan St. Louis reports that the Rangers have expressed some level of interest in defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo.
After not playing more than 48 games a season due to injuries during his first five years in the NHL with Toronto, Colaiacovo has never played less than 64 in the four years since being traded to St. Louis.
Last season, Colaiacovo had two goals and 17 assists in 64 games while averaging 19 minutes of ice time. He also registered 73 hits, 81 blocked shots and only 14 giveaways. In 370 career games Colaiacovo has scored 30 goals and 109 assists for 139 points.
Detroit has apparently offered Colaiacovo a two-year contract worth $2.5 million per season.
…with Torts proving during the playoffs that he doesn’t have much confidence in Bickel, Colaiacovo would be a great addition, whose game would fit well in the Rangers system. The $2.5 million price tag is reasonable as well.
…the UFA defenseman had a down year offensively last season, but is said to be a good skater and puck-mover with some offensive ability, who can also play the point on the power play. As evidenced by his 20 power play points during the 2008-09 season.
