Here’s Martin Brodeur on facing Henrik Lundqvist in the Eastern Conference Finals (via New York Post)…
“He’s unbelievable. He is lately. He’s kind of the top goalie in the NHL right now. And I think I was in that position once.
“I’ll do my best to try to match up, but it’s going to be pretty hard. He’s a pretty good goalie.”
Lundqvist talks Brodeur during his press conference yesterday. Watch video here.
Meanwhile, Johnette Howard at ESPN.com takes an in-depth look at the goaltending match-up here.
Lundqvist lifetime vs. Devils – 25-11-5, 1.79 gaa, .936 sv%, 6 so.
Brodeur lifetime vs. Rangers – 46-29-15-5, 2.12 gaa, .918 sv%, 9 so.
…i assume going into the series, everyone feels that the Rangers have the advantage in goal, but one thing I’ve learned over the years is to not count Brodeur out. Lots of rumors that this might be Brodeur’s last year, so you can’t tell me he’s not chomping at the bit to take down the Rangers on his way to the Stanley Cup Finals. I’m sure his teammates are more than aware of the abuse he takes from the Garden crowd and will be doing all they can to help Brodeur defeat the Rangers
…having said that, something about seeing Brodeur at the other end of the ice brings out the absolute best in Lundqvist, so I expect him to be even better than what we’ve seen so far these playoffs. And that’s saying a lot.
In a matchup between the best goalie in the game and the best goalie ever the NY Rangers have the advantage. Brodeur not the Brodeur of old
