As we get closer to hopefully the beginning of the 2012-13 NHL season, Rangers fans are growing more and more worried by the day about RFA Michael Del Zotto mysteriously not being re-signed by the Blueshirts yet.
And now, Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record says there’s obvious disagreement between the two sides on the terms of a new contract.
Gross does add that he’s confident a deal will get done.
…all I keep hearing is “a deal will get done,” “a deal will get done, ” “a deal will get done.” Oh really? Then where’s the deal? The two sides must really be far off for this to be leaking into August.
…because Del Zotto is not eligible for arbitration along with the Rangers holding his rights, the Blueshirts hold the upperhand in negotiations and you have to assume they’re playing hardball with their homegrown, talented defenseman. I always found it funny that the Rangers have no problem throwing as much money as possible to UFAs, but when it comes to taking care of their own it seems like they’re always playing hardball. Just ask Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky.
