Rangers 3, Capitals 1

The New York Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals by the score of 3-1 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals matchup. The Rangers lead the series 1-0. For a recap and box score go to Yahoo! Sports.

…i hope you like defensive hockey because that’s what you’re going to see in this series. Which, to me, favors the Rangers because they are much better at playing the low scoring, defensive minded game.

…so I think this Kreider kid might have a chance to be a decent NHL player. lol. His speed is devastating for opponents. Allows him to make plays no one else can.

…Richards may have had an underwhelming regular season points-wise, but he is sure earning that contract this post-season.

…speaking of Richards, the play-making ability of Stepan recently has him looking like a young Richards.

…don’t think something special is happening here? Just minutes after the Rangers showed Stephane Matteau on the jumbotron, Anisimov scores a goal eerily similar to Matteau’s double overtime winner against the Devils that sent the Rangers to the Stanley Cup Finals back in 1994.

…as Torts said at the end of the year, Fedotenko was brutal at some points during the regular season, but he knows how to win in the playoffs. And nothing personified that more than the effort he gave on the 5-on-3 penalty kill in the second period. Awesome stuff.

…Ovechkin is going to see Girardi and McDonagh in his sleep tonight.

…game high 8 hits for Callahan. Would you expect anything else from the Rangers captain?

…at this point you have to wonder of Gaborik may be injured.

…thought the power play might have been coming around after a decent series against Ottawa. Guess not.

…wonder if Lundqvist took the goal posts out to dinner after the game?

…love the “Ovie Sucks” chant at the eight minute mark.

…while the 1994 team will always have a place in my heart, I can’t remember another Rangers team I enjoy watching more than this one right now. Amazing combination of veteran leadership and youthful enthusiasm.

…off today then right back at it tomorrow at MSG for Game 2.
