Ranger Players Continue to Weigh Options

Steve Zipay at Newsday was able to speak with a number of Rangers players about their plans during the lockout, including RFA Michael Del Zotto, who said he’s returning home to Stouffville, Ontario, next week to skate with other displaced players or with Oshawa, his former OHL club, and consider his next move, which may include a deal overseas.

Carl Hagelin, who has been rumored to be in contact with his former team in Sodertalje, Sweden explained his course of action…

“I’ll probably take another week to decide, but the way things are going, you have to look into it.”

As this lockout continues to drag on players who originally stated they didn’t have plans are now looking into overseas options, including Marc Staal, who is now not ruling out playing Europe…

“It doesn’t look like this [labor stalemate] is going to end quickly. It’s gotten ugly,” Staal noted.

Meanwhile Katie Strang at ESPN.com spoke with Henrik Lundqvist about rumors of him returning to Frolunda now that the Swedish Elite League must accept NHL players…

“With the decision made, obviously, I might play there, but I still have to think it through. My approach is, I want to be ready. That’s my focus. That’s why I don’t want to rush into anything. That’s why I want do what’s best.”

On the lockout Lundqvist added…

“Up until last week, I was optimistic even though things didn’t look too great. But now, I don’t know.”

…i really hate the wording the Rangers players are using about the lockout. Maybe they’re just posturing, but I’m more concerned than ever that for the second time in eight years we’re going to lose a full season of NHL hockey.
