Prust Alters Series With Bout Against Neil

Games 2 through 5 we watched as Chris Neil dominated the Rangers physically without a care in the world as John Tortorella inexplicably stapled Michael Rupp and Stu Bickel to the bench.

Well Brandon Prust finally had enough and could have changed the course of the series by doing this with the Rangers down 1-0 in the first period…

…i don’t care that Prust lost the fight. The mere act of taking on the much bigger Neil was more than enough to get his teammates fired up and keep the Senators faux tough guy virtually quiet for the remainder of the night. Not sure why someone didn’t do that three games ago. That fight not only inspired the Rangers to win the game but could ultimately catapult them into the second round.

Brad Richards on the fight’s impact on the game (via ESPN NY)…

“It doesn’t really matter what anyone did for us offensively. Prusty, what he’s done all year and what he’s done again tonight, it’s unbelievable. We didn’t want to let him down. I don’t want to say that’s why we won, but we love that guy and he’s done it game in and game out all year. It was awesome to see.”

…wow, that pretty much says it all.

Prust on why he fights…

“We were down 1-nothing. Whenever I’m fighting, it’s not usually for me, it’s to get the guys going. I’d like to say it worked.”
