Practice Notes: Sauer Held Out; Woywitka Cleared for Contact; Torts on Bruins

sauerAndrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Mike Sauer (concussion) was kept of the ice for the second straight day of practice and will not accompany the team to Boston.

Sauer participated in off-ice conditioning yesterday, but was held out today by trainer Jim Ramsey.

…hoping Ramsey just wanted to give Sauer a day off to relax after three straight days on the ice.

Meanwhile, Pat Leonard at the Daily News says Jeff Woywitka (foot) has been cleared for contact but the defensive pairs will remain the same in Boston tomorrow. Woywitka will no make the trip.

…i totally understand why Torts wouldn’t want to insert a guy who hasn’t played in a month against the defending Stanley Cup champs. Although with Torts’ lack of trust in Bickel, the Rangers are probably going to just rotate five defensemen anyway.

Finally, Leonard has this quote from John Tortorella on playing the Bruins…

“They are the Stanley Cup winners. That’s the team that should be talked about as a Stanley Cup winner.”

…assuming he’s referring to Dolan’s comments.
