Michael Traikos of the National Post takes a team-by-team look at potential amnesty buyouts should the new CBA have them. If you recall, the 04-05 agreement included a one-time amnesty buyout that wouldn't affect the salary cap for teams. The Rangers used it on Bobby Holik and his ridiculous five-year, $45 million pact.
Here's what Traikos had to say about the Rangers:
New York Rangers: Wade Redden
The Rangers are paying Redden US$6.5-million to play in the minors.
Some notable NHLers that could be bought out include Vincent Lecavalier, Jaromir Jagr, Dany Heatley and Ilya Bryzgalov.
… Shocker of the century that Wade Redden, Scott Gomez and Rick DiPietro are on this list.
… I find it interesting Dany Heatley is listed. It would make sense for Minnesota to go this route after their $198 million offseason, but if Heatley, 31, hits the open market, there will be serious interest in him. I would say the Rangers could be a suitor, but it will cost too much money. Can never have enough scoring.
