In an interview with Arthur Staple of Newsday, J.P. Parise, Zach’s father, addressed his son’s up-coming free agency and the possibility of him landing with the Rangers…
“Zach likes Torts a lot. Zach knows how to work, he doesn’t shy away from the discipline part of it. He’d fit right in there.”
…assuming the Devils organization isn’t exactly excited about that quote.
…Parise’s father is right, though. Very similar to the entire Rangers team, he’s a hard working player, who isn’t afraid to get dirty to win. He’s also ferocious on the forecheck. Having a relationship with Torts from the Olympics doesn’t hurt either. Playing for Torts is what ultimately led to Richards’ signing, so let’s hope the Rangers #1 recruiting tool works again this off-season.
Staple adds that Parise’s representation is Newport Sports, the same as Brad Richards’, and there are plenty of executives around the league who could easily see Parise joining Tortorella’s hard working team.
Finally Staple notes that the Devils’ ugly financial picture, with managing partner Jeff Vanderbeek reportedly searching for a partner with $80 million to pony up and a mountain of debt on the Prudential Center, will prevent the Devils from offering Parise anything close to market value.
