With all the trade rumors surrounding Michael Del Zotto lately, you had to assume a number of scouts would have been in attendance for his return to the lineup against the Stars Thursday night. Or maybe not.
According to Allan Muir at SI.com, no scouts were issued credentials for the Rangers game in Dallas, which he called "kind of odd" considering all the Del Zotto chatter.
…not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Good because any interested suitor missed another poor performance from Del Zotto, bad because no one is interested.
Meanwhile, Craig Custance at ESPN.com revisited the Del Zotto to Ottawa rumor by noting that because of the Senators budget issues, the Rangers would have to take back some of Del Zotto’s $2.55 million salary for the trade to work.
…sorry Ottawa, if you want him so badly, you can take his entire salary.
And it looks like a new team might be interested in Del Zotto's services as Darren Dreger at TSN reports that the Hurricanes have offered Tuomo Ruutu and Jiri Tlusty to teams as part of their search for a puck-moving defenseman.
Ruutu has an annual cap hit of $4.75M, while Tlusty's is just $1.6M.
…the Rangers don't have the cap space for Ruutu, so there's no use even discussing him. However, despite Tlusty's struggles this season (just three goals & recently demoted to the fourth line) he did score 23 goals in 48 games last season and had 36 points (17g, 19a) the year before that.
…Tlusty is also just 25-years old and just entering his prime. I think I just convinced myself this would be a good trade. Someone get me Sather's phone number.
