NHL, NHLPA Meet for Five Hours, Don’t Discuss CBA

If this CBA mess doesn't have you begging your pharmacist for anti-depressants, Chris Johnson of the Canadien Press just wrote you a prescription with this report from yesterday's meeting between the NHL and NHLPA…

"The sides spent almost five hours together Monday going over accounting for last season, but didn't emerge with any plan to resume collective bargaining talks. In fact, the topic wasn't even raised, according to representatives from each camp."

…what?!?!?!?! Someone please tell me I'm on Punk'd. They met for FIVE hours and the CBA wasn't even mentioned?!?!?! What in the world were they talking about? What costumes they're wearing for Halloween? And some of you want to know why the tone of the blog has been so negative lately.

Please NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, tell us why the CBA wasn't discussed (via Pro Hockey Talk)…

“Obviously, we’ve got to talk before you can get a deal. So I think it’s important to get the talks going again. But you also have to have something to say — and I think it’s fair to say we feel like we need to hear from the players’ association in a meaningful way, because I don’t think they’ve really moved off of their initial proposal, which was made more than a month ago.”

…and there's your problem folks. Both sides are waiting for the other to make a move, and guess what? Neither one is going to flinch. Not when the regular season is supposed to start. Not when the NBC schedule is to begin. And not when the Winter Classic is to be played.

…the owners are billionaires who have probably never bent for anything in their life and now under Don Fehr the millionaire players are united like never before.

And if you don't believe me, then how about the Red Wings' Dan Cleary who warns fans not to expect hockey for awhile (via Detroit Free Press)…

"I think people don't think it can go a year. As players, we think it can. Maybe longer."

…(head shake).

Ok, time to lighten the mood with things you won't hear during a NHL lockout (h/t Puck Daddy)…
