NHL Makes Latest Proposal Available Online, NHLPA Counters with Response Letter to Players

Earlier this morning, the NHL made available to the public its latest CBA proposal to the NHLPA on NHL.com—the first instance in NHL CBA negotiations.

A calculated PR move? Perhaps, since the League has been on a PR kick it seems this week. But is it wise to make such a power play to force the Players' hands?

The NHLPA fired back in a way with a letter from Director Donald Fehr to the players and agents regarding the latest proposal, which is available to read via Bob McKenzie at TSN.ca.

Simply put, the owners' new proposal, while not quite as Draconian as their previous proposals, still represents enormous reductions in player salaries and individual contracting rights. As you will see, at the 5 per cent industry growth rate the owners predict, the salary reduction over six years exceeds $1.6 billion. What do the owners offer in return?
