Chris Peters at the United States of Hockey reports that J.T. Miller could be rewarded for his veteran leadership by wearing a letter for the Team USA World Junior team during the World Juniors in Russia at the end of the month…
"Miller’s return is huge for the U.S. Had NYR held him from the WJC, there would have been a gaping hole with no adequate replacement. Miller brings strength, speed and a tenacity that is required in these emotional games. On top of that, he brings terrific vision and strong skills that should allow him to be productive. One of his best attributes however is his ability to create time and space for his linemates with terrific puck protection skills. He should see a lot of time on special teams and expect him on the ice a lot in general. He is likely to wear a letter for this team as well."
…that would be an amazing and well deserved honor for Miller. While I'd still like to see him stay with Whale he could gain a ton of confidence in this tournament that will serve him well when he returns to the AHL.
Peters also takes a look at Brady Skjei (2012 – 1st) who also made the roster on defense…
"Skjei is probably the best skater in this group which had to be a huge deciding factor in bringing him in. He’s one of those guys whose value only increases on the European sheet. He’s good defensively, has great size and strength and can contribute just enough offensively."
Peters feels Skjei may have a hard time finding a regular spot on the roster during the tournament.
…Skjei is still young and isn't exactly tearing it up with the Universirty of Minnesota, but I love what I'm hearing about his skating ability and size. Kid is going to be a player.
