Michalek May Be Suspended for Game 7 for Kick on Girardi (Update: He’s Not)

Update, 6:45 p.m.:
As has been the case all series the NHL decides on leniency with a Senators player as despite overwhelming proof of Michalek kicking Giraradi…(via Daily News)…

…the NHL decided to do nothing more than give the Senators all star forward a slap on the wrist…

…what’s next a stern talking to for maiming someone?

Original Post:
Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Senators’ high scoring winger Milan Michalek may be facing a suspension for Game 7 as a result of kicking Dan Girardi twice in the midsection with his skate blade.

Brooks adds that the play was part of the scrum in front of Lundqvist that resulted in the second goal.

Here’s video. At the 14 second mark you can see Michalek and Girardi wrestling on the ice then Girardi jump-up with his hands raised looking for a referee to complain about the Michalek kick. Can’t actually see the kick, but this is the best I’ve found…

…doesn’t get much more despicable than a player using their skate as a weapon. Chris Simon was given 30 games for stepping on Jarkko Ruutu’s foot, not sure if Michalek will get that many game but it should be significant.
