McIlrath Hopes to Start Getting Game Ready By New Year’s

Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United was able to sit down with Dylan McIlrath to discuss the latest on his recovery from a dislocated kneecap…

"It started last Monday when I got back on the ice…I eased into it a little bit, but now I'm starting to do my rehab in the morning while these guys are practicing, then I'll hop on for the last five minutes and skate around. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll start doing bag skates."

On a timetable for his return…

"Hopefully in a couple of weeks I can hit the ice with the guys. We haven't set an exact date when I'm supposed to return. It's up to the knee and see how it reacts. Hopefully around Christmas time, New Year's I'll be looking to get game ready."

…definitely been a long journey for McIlrath, but it's exciting to hear that he should be back in game action in about a month and a half.

…unfortunately, if there is an NHL season this year, this knee injury pretty much ended any chance he may have had of being called up. It'll take him at least a month or so to get reacclimated to game play as maybe even longer getting used to the speed of the pro game. Look for him to be a candidate to make the Rangers roster next training camp. If there is one.

Here's the entire McIlrath interview…
