Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that Ryan Callahan will miss his second straight game tonight in Tampa and will likely miss Sunday’s matinee against the Bruins with a bruised right foot he sustained blocking an Ilya Kovalchuk shot Monday night.
X-rays were negative, but Callahan’s foot is in a boot and he is on crutches.
Here’s Callahan on the injury…
“Each day it’s getting better. It’s just a matter I think of getting the swelling down and getting a little mobility back into it. It’s day to day right now. Each morning I wake up and it’s feeling a little bit better. So hopefully pretty quickly I’ll be back…You always get nervous and especially with what happened last year late in the season. But x-rays were fine and everything like that, so it’s just a matter of getting the swelling down and then getting back on it.”

…just because x-rays were negative doesn’t mean Callahan is out of the woods with this injury. A deep bone bruise could keep the Rangers captain out for weeks. Hope I’m wrong.
Meanwhile, Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record says that Michael Del Zotto is considered day to day after re-aggravating the sore right hip he initially hurt on Saturday against Buffalo.
The team will re-evaluate him this morning in Tampa.
…with Erixon getting injured the other night with the Whale, I’m assuming he’s unavailable to be called up, so Torts will likely just re-insert Eminger into the line-up.
