Since the Rangers and Michael Del Zotto couldn’t agree on a deal before the previous CBA expired at midnight last night, the young Rangers defenseman is at the mercy of the new CBA, which, according to Larry Brooks at the New York Post, might not be a good thing for him…
“If the cap is squeezed coming out of the lockout, Del Zotto, who may see his arbitration rights and free-agent eligibility deferred as a result of the agreement, will get less; perhaps significantly less.”
The Rangers reportedly offered Del Zotto a two or three year deal at upward of $2.5 million per.
…Del Zotto is going to be begging for that $2.5 million offer after the new CBA is agreed upon. Sather totally has him by the balls in these negotiations. And will end up saving the Rangers some valuable space if/when the cap ceiling is lowered.
