During the 2004-2005 lockout, NHL players had to figure out a plan B in order to earn a paycheck and stay in game shape. Many players opted to play in Europe for the season, and it was during this period that Henrik Lundqvist of Frölunda would make a name for himself, winning Sweden’s equivalent of the Vezina AND Hart trophies.
It appears that, should a lockout occur, Lundqvist might return to where his career began; with Frölunda. According to the Swedish news source Expressen, Frölunda is prepared to offer Lundqvist a contract should an NHL lockout in fact occur. They also cite Erik Karlsson and Loui Eriksson as players Frolunda could target.
Obviously, a lockout would be devestating and Henrik wants to be spending this season helping New York win a Stanley Cup. But the decision is ultimately out of his hands. I’m sure, if the NHL hasn’t reached an agreement, he’d love to spend a nostalgic season with Frölunda once again. We saw during the pre-season last year how he’s more or less a god there.
