Game 3 a Career Defining Win for Lundqvist

lundqvistcapsIn my Game 3 post game thoughts, I stated that Henrik Lundqvist’s performance was one he hadn’t been able produce in his career and its looks like Craig Custance at ESPN Insider agrees…

“If the Rangers continue winning in these playoffs, it will be one that defines Lundqvist’s career. Make 46 saves in a triple-overtime playoff win, including a crucial glove save on Dennis Wideman a minute before the game ended, and it gets that kind of consideration.”

Custance adds that if the Rangers would have lost, pushing Lundqvist’s personal playoff overtime losing streak to eight, people would have started wondering why one of the best goalies of this generation can’t win under the highest pressure.

…Custance nails it on the head with this one. If the Rangers would have lost this game and eventually the series, the questions would have come fast and furious as to why Lundqvist can’t put a team on his back in the playoffs. But this win, one that has alluded him time and again in the playoffs, could be the first step towards Lundqvist being defined as one of the best goaltenders to ever play this game in the regular season or playoffs.
