Drury Accepts Role

drurySteve Zipay at Blue Notes reports that Chris Drury has accepted his role as a fourth line player and adds that a fourth line is important for a Cup run…

“The way I look at it is, whatever’s presented throughout the game, I just try to do it the best I can, whether its defensive-zone draws, killing penalties, whatever’s thrown at me,” he said today after an optional skate. “I know what’s expected of me. My job is to be ready as to whatever comes.”

“I will say this: I don’t think any team’s ever won a Stanley Cup without a good four lines. When I look back to my Cup in Colorado, we had a great fourth line, they did everything asked of them, they did everything possible to help us win, win faceoffs, blocking shots, kill penalties: Shjon Podein, Dave Reid, Stephane Yelle, guys just killed themselves to help us win. Teams and organizations are deeper than they’ve ever been. You’re gonna need a lot of guys if you want to get where to want to be in June.” Even the teams in the 80s had so much skill, the Oilers, they always had guys who did the little things, you’d be hard-pressed to find a winner who didn’t have them.”

…Drury is doing some serious lobbying for his job here. If the Rangers are dependent on the fourth line to make a Cup run they’re in a lot of trouble.

…i know it’s hard to put aside his salary, but I think Rangers fans needs to just except what Drury is at this point and be happy about any contributions he can make (ie faceoffs, blocked shots, pk).

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants has quotes from Brian Boyle on the Rangers struggling power play.
