David Pollak at the Mercury News reports that a well-placed source advised him that Shane Doan’s camp is looking for a four-year deal. And because of that, the San Jose Sharks are officially out of the Doan sweepstakes.
Meanwhile, Pat Leonard at the Daily News notes that Doan’s agent recently confirmed that his client has received a four-year, $7 million per year offer from a team other than the Rangers, who still remain a favorite to land the 36-year old UFA.
It was reported in early July that a team from the East offered Doan a 4-year, $30 million contract.
The only known reports of an offer to Doan is from the Buffalo Sabres.
…this is the first real report I’ve seen that attributes the four-year demand as coming from Doan’s camp. And if that’s the case, Sather needs to run, not walk, away from the Coyotes captain. Especially if he’s looking for $7 million per.
…how lucky is Doan? In most offseasons he’d be lucky to get a two-year deal, but with how thin this year’s crop of UFAs is he’s being way over-valued. Just look at next year: Perry, Getzlef, Hartnell, Iginla, Lupul and Horton. I’d rather have anyone of those guys (ok maybe not Hartnell) than Doan any day of the week.
In other free agency news, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly reports that former Rangers defenseman Steve Eminger has a stall at Flyers camp. But Anthony SanFilippo of PhilidelphiaFlyers.com says that the UFA defenseman was working out at Skate Zone on his own and not for the Flyers.
…Panaccio seems to infer that Eminger will be in Flyers camp, while SanFilippo isn’t so sure. I’ve got to go with SanFilippo as you’d assume there would have been a report about Eminger either signing or going to Philly camp on a tryout.
…or maybe Eminger is the guy the Flyers want to steal from the Rangers, not, as James Wrabel posted yesterday, Del Zotto. lol
…the Rangers are still in need of a depth defenseman and I’m sure Eminger’s name has come up, but you’d have to assume if the Blueshirts wanted to bring the veteran defenseman back they’d already have locked him up. Although, they haven’t re-signed Del Zotto either so who knows.
