Devils Looking to Protect Home Ice

Tom Gulitti at the Bergen Record has this from the Devils on protecting home ice…

Ilya Kovalchuk…

“That’s our goal. You want to protect our home ice like we did against Philly. So, I think those two games will be crucial. I think the Rangers play a little different on the road too than they do at home, so we’ve go to take advantage of that. Every team, they’re a little bigger, a little stronger at home. Your fans, they obviously give you that extra jump so we want to use that as an advantage tomorrow.”

Devils coach Pete DeBoer…

“We know the Rangers are going to push. We know they’re going to come out and play a great hockey game tomorrow. It’s on us to do the same thing. So I expect it to be the best game of the series tomorrow from both ends. I think both teams are going to take their game to another level.”

Zach Parise on the importance of Game 3…

“In a game or in a series, it’s important to get the lead. Maybe it would be just a little unfamiliar territory for them that they haven’t been down 2-1 in a series, but I don’t know if that would make much of a difference. They play tight hockey all the way through, but from our standpoint we’d love to get the 2-1 lead.”

The Devils are 4-1 at home this postseason.

…while it hasn’t been easy, the Rangers captured Game 3 in Ottawa and Washington after losing Game 2, so they’re are in familiar territory. There should be a large contingent of Rangers fans at the game as well so they shouldn’t be too worried about the Devils getting too much of a lift from a raucous anti-Rangers crowd.

Meanwhile, after initially begging Devils fans not to sell their playoff tickets to Rangers fans, they are now welcoming the enemy with open arms.
