Concussion Not Only Injury Boyle Received from Neil Hit

During last year’s first round series against the Ottawa Senators, Brian Boyle was a force, some may argue the Rangers best player, then in Game 5 he was freight trained with a high hit by Chris Neil and was never the same.

The initial prognosis was a concussion, but now Boyle tells (via Blueshirts United) us he received other injuries as well…

“There were some other things from that hit (from Chris Neil) that were problems—had a problem with my elbow and arm that were a lot worse than I thought they were. It was important to learn to play through that much pain with so much on the line.”

…still can’t believe Neil wasn’t suspended for that hit.

…for all the talk about the Rangers needing more offense and how the defense broke down during the playoffs, the real culprit seemed to be injuries. Listen, I know every team has injuries but if Callahan, Gaborik and Boyle were playing anywhere near 100% I think the Devils series would have gone much differently. And let’s not forget that Sauer didn’t play a second in the playoffs.

On his health now, Boyle added….

“I’m healthy now, and that’s what is most important. Nothing that happened during the playoffs was long-term (injury-wise), but there were things I had to play through, and not just coming back from the concussion. I am training hard now preparing for camp like I always do.”

For those who don’t remember, here’s the Neil hit on Boyle…
