Brooks: To Suggest Drury Isn’t Injured Is Insulting

druryLarry Brooks at the New York Post wrote this regarding conspiracy theorists who have suggested the Rangers claimed that Chris Drury was injured only to avoid having to name him a healthy scratch…

“Rather, the likelihood is that the captain hung in and battled for weeks through pain that compromised his game until his team became healthy enough with the return of Vinny Prospal on Thursday and Erik Christensen here yesterday to step out and take some time to try and repair the knee so that he can contribute more than spare change on the penalty kill and at the defensive zone dots.”

…while the timing of the injury was quite convenient, I think we can all agree that despite not living up to his contract, Drury, as Brooks notes, is a player with unquestionable character and most likely is injured. Especially after hearing yesterday that his knee was drained. As I’ve said repeatedly, I still think Drury could play an important role for this team if they make the playoffs. Although that’s looking less and less likely every game.

…one thing that still has me questioning the injury is that no beat writer ever mentioned Drury limping around. And even yesterday Steve Zipay tweeted that he never remembered him hobbling around.
