Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that tonight’s game vs. Phoenix will be Stu Bickel’s 10th of the season, meaning he will now have to clear waivers in order to be reassigned to the CT Whale.
Bickel has 4a and is a +3 on the season.
…after taking the NHL by storm with four assists in his first three games while sprinkling in a few scraps, it seems as if Bickel’s games has been a little less aggressive since taking a punch to the eye from the Islanders Michael Haley. He has gone pointless in the five games since and hasn’t gotten into one dustup.
…having said that, he continues to be much better defensively than I could have ever expected and as long as he’s not a defensive liability out there Torts will have no problem throwing him over the boards every third or fourth shift.

In other defensive news, Brooks says Michael Sauer has been symptom-free for at least a couple of weeks and is doing light physical activity such as riding a stationary bike, but he is not close to returning.
…that is outstanding news. Similar to Staal, I assume the Rangers are going to continue to be very cautious with Sauer. Which is the right thing to do.
Finally, Brooks notes that Steve Eminger is likely still up to eight weeks away from returning from the separated shoulder sustained in Phoenix on Dec. 17.
