Winter Classic in Central Park?

centralparkLarry Brooks at the New York Post says with the Winter Classic becoming too big to fail, Central Park could make lots of sense…

“If the event is about gate receipts, it won’t be coming to New York for some time. But if it’s as much about finding the perfect backdrop for television, if it is about the setting as much as it is about marquee teams, then Central Park would be the perfect venue.”

Brooks adds that the Flyers would probably be the opponent.

This isn’t the first time Central Park has been mentioned as a location as the guys over at 5-hole reported on two years ago.

…it would be a pretty sick idea. The only problem I see the NHL having with it is seating. I think they love the idea of 60-70,000 fans in a football stadium, not 20,000 in temporary stands.

Speaking of the Winter Classic, Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy gives us five reasons why next year’s Winter Classic should be Rangers/Kings.

…Wyshynski forgot to include Frolov facing his former team after the Rangers re-sign him in the off-season to a four-year $20 million deal. ;)
