Torts: Kopecky Got What He Deserved

With just seven seconds to go in last night’s game Florida’s Tomas Kopecky sucker punched Michael Del Zotto in the face after the two battled in front of the net…

…To which Mike Rupp took exception to and decided to do this…

…and that is why the Rangers signed Rupp this summer. If you mess with the Rangers skill players you will have to deal with Rupp.

And Torts’ thoughts on the incident…

“it was a sucker punch…he got what he deserved”

even the biggest Torts hater has to love that line.

How about Panthers coach Kevin Dineen’s thoughts (via CBS Sports)…

“That’s hockey. Some guy cross-checks you in the back and then follows through. He deserves a good smash in the face. He got what he deserved. Then guys who play five minutes a night, it’s typical that they would go and try and grab our skill players. We’ll see what the response is.”

…wow, what a douche. Way to condone sucker punching.

Here’s Florida enforcer Krystopher Barch (via Sun Sentinel)…

“I’m sure we’ll have a meeting next week in New York,” Barch said of next Thursday’s rematch against the Rangers. “You can’t allow that stuff to happen. … That’s just not allowed to go on in terms of a teammate getting jumped like that. We’ll take care of that next week.”

…can the HBO 24/7 camera’s hang around for another week? I’d love to hear what’s going to be said in that one.

The Rangers and Panthers face each other for the final time this season next Thursday at MSG.
