Prior to last night’s game John Tortorella discussed Michael Del Zotto’s progression this year (via Blueshirts United)…
“The thing that’s encouraging to me is that I think he listened as we were going through some steps last year, and made some adjustments as far as the mental part of the game,” stated Tortorella. “He came into camp in really good shape, and has defended hard, and that’s been a huge improvement in his game. And I think his offense is coming more and more. The biggest improvement, for me, is his mindset, as far as learning to be a pro. We expect so much out of him at such a young age because of the way he splashed on to us (two seasons ago), and we are trying to be patient with him, and trying to help him regain some of his swagger.”
Del Zotto has 2g, 9a and is a +9 this season.
…while Del Zotto has been much better than last season, I still think that he has been too inconsistant and if not for Sauer his defensive inadequacies would have be exposed even more.
…having said that, with Sauer now being injured he has been given a huge opportunity to prove that he can be a solid defenseman in the league.
…and he can start doing that by hitting the effin net.
