Update, 8:54 a.m.:
Darren Dreger at TSN reports that last night a team talking with the Ducks about Ryan said based on asking price a coaching change was more likely.
…nice call by that team. I can only imagine how much the Ducks were asking from the Rangers. Must have started at Stepan, McD and a 1st.
Update, 7:45 a.m.:
Chris Botta at the New York Times hockey blog Slap Shot reports that other teams in the mix for Ryan include Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens.
Botta adds that while the Flyers are reportedly out of the Ryan sweepstakes, you cannot dismiss their recent history of making big deals.
…makes sense that all the rumored teams are from the Eastern Conference. Can’t imagine Ducks want to trade Ryan within the Conference.
Update, December 1st, 7:30 a.m.:
Accoring to TSN, late last night the Ducks fired head coach Randy Carlyle and hired former Washington coach Bruce Boudreau, who was dismissed by the Capitals just two days earlier.
…lots of people saying Carlyle firing means Ryan is off the market. Not sure why that is. Yes, it looks like Anaheim decided to change the coach instead of the team, but couldn’t they still do both?
…should be interesting to hear what the rumor mill says today.
Last night the Ducks defeated the Canadiens 4-1 with Ryan picking up an assist.
Update, 10:57 p.m.:
Boruk adds in a tweet that we shouldn’t assume the Rangers or any team would have to unload the farm for Ryan and that the team willing to part with 1st round picks could get him.
…wow, I am shocked to hear this. Get it done Glen. Win-now mode has officially changed me.
Update, 8:57 p.m.:
Larry Brooks reports that if Ryan is traded tonight he’s not coming to New York.
Original Post, November 30th:
John Boruk at CSN Philadelphia reports that the Rangers are the frontrunners to land Bobby Ryan and that the deal with the Anaheim Ducks could be done by the end of the week.
Boruk adds that Anaheim GM Bob Murray reached out to the Flyers but they weren’t willing to part with 20-year-old Brayden Schenn or the 2007 No. 2 overall pick James van Riemsdyk.
…with the Ducks asking the Flyers for Schenn or van Riemsdyk, i really don’t see how the Rangers can get this done without giving up a Stepan or McD who are considered untouchable.
…only other person I can see the Ducks possibly being interested in is Dubinsky who has obviously struggled mightily this year. Maybe Dubi, Sauer and a first.
…Rangers are going so good right now, I would really hate to see them mess with the team’s chemistry.
…let’s hope that if it does go down Sather is able to pull off some more trade magic ala Gomez for McD.
