McIlrath Impressing at Development Camp

mcilrathSteve Zipay at Newsday reports that 2010 1st roung pick Dylan McIlrath has looked leaner, faster and more confident during the first two days of development camp. He had a goal and an assist in yesterday’s scrimmage.

Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants adds that McIlrath has been working out for the last four and a half weeks at the facility back home in Winnipeg. He said this offseason has been better for him than last year because he’s been able to stay in a routine, as opposed to last year when he found himself doing too much “running around” after being the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft.

McIlrath on his game…

“When I’m playing my best is when I’m keeping it simple,” McIlrath said. “When I do too much, I have to pull it back. That’s why the Rangers drafted me, to be a stay-at-home, solid defenseman. Obviously, I’m going to work on my other skills but my bread and butter is staying at home.”

McIlrath will most likely be headed back to his Juniors team after camp in September.

…Fowler who? Really excited to see McIlrath progressing.
